Airbnb is a crowdsourced accommodation platform that allows people to put up their places, spaces and spare rooms for other users to stay in.
In June the global company set up its first New Zealand office in Auckland to keep up with demand for the service.
There are now more than 7000 properties in New Zealand listed on Airbnb, up from 6000 just a month ago.
A growing number of travellers are taking advantage of a surge in the number of homeowners offering to rent out a place to sleep.
The benefits for homeowners to lease their spare room/entire house on Airbnb are countless. The rent for the property listed on Airbnb is usually on the same day rates or higher than the general market rents. It provides the owner with a good revenue stream and as a short term accommodation, it has high turnover rates so that the vacancy rates can be kept low.
The initial cost of jumping into Airbnb is also low. The things required for a brand new apartment would be a first aid kit, liner and beddings. The operational cost would be the cleaning fee for bedding and carpet.
Airbnb can be adjusted according to the owner’s requirements such as blocking days if the owner would like to stay in the house themselves for days or weeks. This gives homeowner more flexibility than the normal renting method.

The building itself was completed in 2015 so the facilities are very modern and brand new. Around 15-20 minutes walking distance to Queen Street.
